Since there isn't a designated conference center hotel - I was looking in a=20
guidebook for Baltimore and "unusual" hotels - found one which was listed as=
=20
either "adjacent to" or "near" the convention center =E2=80=A6=E2=80=A6 went=
on to say=20
something to the effect that "this area is dangerous and not a good place to=
be at=20
night" =E2=80=A6=E2=80=A6 not the usual fare of travel guides =E2=80=A6. Any=
one from Baltimore have any=20
comment on the convention center area?

Tho I am from Northern Virginia, I go to Baltimore about once a month so I a=
m=20
very familiar with the downtown area.
The best and safest hotels are near that convention center:they call this=20
area "inner harbor"....it is awonderfully restored area, thanks to a archite=
ct=20
named Rouse, that re vitilized a once bad area. It is a u shaped harbor of=20
shoppes, restaurants, an incredible Aquarium, docks often with tall ships at=
port,=20
and some other commercial stuff (like a hard rock cafe etc.). On the other=20
side stand Camden yards (where Orioles play), Football field, and a wonderfu=
l=20
hands on science center. The other side of the harbor boasts the Visionary=20=
Art=20
Museum---a MUST SEE!
Surrounding this area are the following hotels:
the Marriott, Days Inn, Holiday Inn, Harbor Court, Hyatt, Sheraton.
I have stayed at the Marriott (very nice), Sheraton (overpriced for the hote=
l=20
with so-so food that once did not have hot water for a day!)., and have=20
friends stay at the Holiday Inn....when I have done the ACC show there.
The Econolodges, Budget hotels are out of town, as far as I know.
There are many others but the others are in a downtown area where you would=20
not feel comfortable walking either night or day.
Hope that is helpful!
Sincerely

And Yes, I have walked around the convention center many a night and feel
totally safe doing so ...not sure if it is the second degree green belt
training....or rather that is seems to be a safe area. Of course, like most major
cities there are panhandlers, that may approach....but you each deal with that as
you do.
