Last year, I bought one of Jack's teabowls over the internet. Two weeks
later, I received a "Thank you" post card from him. One side is a black and
white photo of his hands cradling a bottle form. The other side is a note of
appreciation.
In February, I purchased a three legged vessel at a gallery opening at
Lake Charles, LA. Two weeks later, I received a color postcard "Thank you"
from Jack Troy. The front of the card is a color photo of two sides of a
bottle entitled,
"Fall and Winter" , and described as "10" Shigarake clay, natural ash glaze,
anagama fired in Japan". In the note, he mentioned the three legged
vessel.....and again, his appreciation.
These thoughtful gestures are as meaningful to me as his finger marks
and his signature on the pottery.
The man has class........all day long.

Merrie I can't agree more. I also bought a lovely large woodfired cup over
the internet with leaf viens prominent and recieved a card from him within a
couple weeks of purchase. Makes the cup even more special that he took the
time to send the card, have that in a folder. I like to assocaite the pot
and the potter. This helps when you don't buy from the potter directly.
Defintely class all the way.
I use to collect crystalline glazed pots when I travelled for work, and
still remember buying one from a potter so impressed with herself in
claifornia. She informed me she was one of the best crystalline potters
around (NOT) Because of her attitude I keep the pots stuffed in the back of
my collection, probably should have skipped buying it.
