unwashed ash/washing in glaze

The reason one washes ash is to remove water-soluble nasties that in one
word are LYE. Lye is dangerous. Period.

If you put unwashed ash (depending of course how much in relation to
other ingredients) and then wash the whole concoction you probably will
lose that small amount of water-soluble materials in other ingredients.
It may also be that some other ingredients incorporate such minute
particles of whatever that they will just wash out.

I urge people NOT to use unwashed ash. But if for some reason you want
to take risks, washing the whole glaze mix does not seem to me a good
idea. More expert ash users may well have opposing opinion.
