This workshop will be a complete course in all aspects of crystalline
glazing. Hosted by Fara Shimbo, author of Crystal Glazes: Understanding
the Process and Materials in Hygiene, Colorado (an hour or so north of
Denver). Topics covered will include:
Materials Used in Crystalline Glazing
Designing, Mixing and Applying Glazes
Designing and Using Drip Catchers
Firing in Electric and Gas Kilns (Oxidation and Reduction)
Troubleshooting Firing Problems
Crystal Seeding
Precious Metals
Rare Earth Pigments
Rutile Crystals and Aventurine Glazes
"CrysRaku"
Making Gemstones from Crystalline Glaze
Photographing Crystalline Wares
Image Manipulation and Slides from Digital Images; Images For The Web
Times: 9AM to 4PM Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, 9AM to 12PM Saturday.
$225 for the whole workshop includes all glaze materials (half due and
by July 1 to reserve your spot; this half is non-refundable). Please
bring three bisqued items to work on. Leather-hard pieces to be seeded
will be provided for each attendee. Standard safety equipment will be on
hand; you are welcomed and encouraged to bring your own if desired. Half
an hour from Rocky Mountain National Park.
