Dear Friends,
Our thread relating to using of Copper compounds as colouring agents is =
getting a little relaxed in its use of some of the qualifying terms.
Functional Pottery decorated with copper bearing glaze is being unfairly =
called into question. I think we must be very clear about what we intend =
people should understand as "Functional Ware" when we use the term =
"Functional". Meditation and Contemplation are human functions and =
copper glazed objects can be used as subjects of veneration. Floor Tiles =
can be glazed with copper bearing glazes and offer no threat to their =
users when employed for their legitimate function.
Though we know holding food and beverage are functions there could be a =
better descriptor. Perhaps people are using "Functional" when they =
intend "Culinary", a word which has an even narrower meaning than =
"Domestic". Who of you would choose to use a Chamber Pot as a Punch =
Bowl. Definitely Domestic usage but unusual Culinary Style.

It wouldn't surprise me if someone used a chamber pot as a casserole. Who
amongst the young really knows what those would be? Or the huge family
style "thundermug" as a server for stew at a potluck party?

Dear Helen,
If we can think it, "It" will happen.
