kiln god national/french

The Kiln God National site is up. Fun and interesting. I like the third
place vulture/god with wings guarding pots..
Go check it out.. http://vickihardin.com/kilngodnational/entry.htm

Yours
Kelly in Ohio
whose langue francais is a bizarre hybrid: half translating Baudelaire
and half conversing with pickpockets and lowlifes in the Metro or the
square outside the Notre Dame cathedral.... et qui a marche, a Paris,
contre Reagan, 1983... we didn't ALL boycott french products in this
recent war, of course.. (btw, if I can't figure out how to type a
"cents" sign, what is my chance of learning to make accent aigu, accent
grave, etcetera?)

Forget asking dumb questions, what really makes one self conscious is
trying to speak a second language. In France, I knew I was smart in
English, but even in my best french I sounded maybe seven years old. And
once in a while my listeners would burst out laughing and tell me what I
really said instead of what I meant to say.. still, nobody around me
spoke english and far be it from me to sit and listen quietly ;0) Two
beers, and I am fluent..

Vicki, you may not know it, but your first place winner, Jim Bob Salazar is
also a Clayart person. :)

Thanks for the intro Kelly! I was just about to invite everyone by the site
to see the entries which include two of Clay Art's own, Primal Mommy and
Marilu Tejero. This is a small show, but the work was incredible. It drew
a lot of attention during ceramics weekend at the Chicken Farm Art Center in
San Angelo which hosts a workshop in conjunction with the Fifteenth San
Angelo National Ceramic Competition. I have to tell you it was very
exciting to open all these small boxes. But the most exciting was Kelly's.
As I opened it I found a wonderful piece of raku, saw her name and thought
Kelly Averill Savino...sounds familiar. I didn't realize who it was until I
saw her mail address...OMG! Primal Mommy!!! It was very exciting to get not
only one but two entries from Clay Art! I may have told quite a few people,
you know I know these people from a list serve. Somehow, I don't think I
got it across to the average person how cool it was to have the work of
someone miles away in your studio that you knew by corresponding on a
computer. But! I know you Clay Arters will understand. And I want to thank
Kelly and Marilu for sending their work and supporting the show.

Something else I saw last weekend which I did not expect to see at the Art
Center was a Clay Art T Shirt. It was worn by Dale Neese. Thanks for that
little bit of NCECA Dale!

Thank you Taylor and Lisa for pointing that out! Yes, isn't Jim Bob's work
amazing.

Vicki,

Unless I'm mistaken I have seen postings to ClayArt from this year's
winner, Jim Bob Salizar. Marsha bought a beaker of his in Gruene last
year. Holds liquid just fine and purdy too.
