oxidation glazes in gas kiln

updated sun 25 apr 04

I have two pieces I need to fire in oxidation (black iron wash on =
non-reduced soldate 60) and I need to fill the kiln. The only two glazes =
I know of that like a neutral-oxidizing atmosphere in cone 10 gas firing =
are ohata red and oribe.

Any suggestions for other glazes for this condition?

Donald,
Most glazes that use cobalt as a colorant and don't use iron or titanium
are unaffected by reduction, so will look similar in oxidation. Copper blue
glazes like oxidation.
Also, you might want to consider putting in test tiles of your reduction
glazes to see what they fire like in oxidation. You may find some surfaces
you like!

Donald, I have an "oatmeal", a clear, a "fat" teal, and a tenmoku
that all work at 10 ox. Let me know if you need them.

Hi Donald
I find most of the cobalt glazes I use don't react much differently ox. or
reduc. my oilspot is best in neutral, cobalt and iron dark green is totally
unaffected by atmosphere and my matt glazes 1/3 1/3 1/3 I also prefer
neutral atmosphere as long as I'm not trying for reduction in the underglaze
slip decoration. Contact me off list if you want more info.
