bottom shelf height for kiln with floor elements

Hello again. Seems like we just spoke!

Anyhow, my kiln has a floor element, a controller=20
with three thermocouples, and a vent which exits=20
from the rear wall, opposite the peeps, at kiln=20
floor level.

I've read that one should use 1" or 2" posts under the bottom shelf.

I wouldn't mind saving the extra inch, but would=20
like your opinions about whether I should have=20
more breathing room for the floor element, or if=20
1" is enough.

The Bartlett controller fired the bisque load=20
evenly, as one would expect, but since I've got a=20
glaze load happening tomorrow, I'd like to do=20
what's best for the load.

Does size matter?

Thanks.

Regards,
Maurice, back home to 90=BA F. Summer in Fairfax,=20
California, after a whirlwind trip to the right=20
coast this weekend.

Hi Maurice,

I would say - with a 3 zone controller - it would be worth a try - placing
the shelf right on the floor - just make sure you keep the next shelf hich
enough so that you don't block the bottom two elements from radiating heat
to that bottom area.

You may have to slow the last 100C down a bit more to compensate.

Don't do it - I had advised Maurice to put the botton shelf right on the
kiln floor - having forgotten he has an element in the floor - bad advice -
don't do it.

I emailed Maurice the same day - not to do it.

Regards to all - RR
