FOOTHILL HIGH SCHOOL
Teaching position opening in ceramics for school year, 04-05. Foothill=20=
High School in Pleasanton, Calif. 40 miles inland from San Francisco.=20
Five classes. Average 33 students per class.A strong ability in wheel=20
throwing is expected and knowledge of stacking and firing=20
kilns.Equipment includes: 6 kickwheels, 3 Shimpo electric wheels, 8=20
Brent CXC=92s, 1 Creative Industries Model HP, 1 North Star 51=94 slab=20=
Roller.There are also 4 damp boxes, stainless inside with rubber seals=20=
on the doors. 2 new ones 2 old ones. They measure 36=94wide,19=94deep & =
81=94=20
high. Kilns 1- 15cu.ft. gas updraft, 1 Skutt1227, w/timer & kiln=20
sitter, NEW Cress,Model E27,with computer controls, small Cress model=20
FX181 with timer & kiln sitter. All kilns are outside in separate brick=20=
building with metal roof, about 25=92 from classroom door. The room=20
measures 44=92 x 37=92.On one side ,the room has floor to ceiling glass=20=
windows with glass double doors facing the kiln building. This is also=20=
a student passageway to get to other classes. Ceramics has a=20
Photography class on one side and Art / drawing on the other. They make=20=
up a wing of this building. The back side of this wing is the Physical=20=
Education locker rooms & weight room. The campus is of a modular design=20=
with pods of classrooms separated with green open spaces, and a large=20
cement outdoor lunch area with metal tables, where students eat food=20
catered from local eateries, ( fast food chains ) and a school=20
cafeteria. The school ( one of two high schools in the district ) has=20
an all weather track and football field, computer lab, computers in all=20=
classrooms as well as a wall mounted tv=92s over which all student=20
bulletins and class related videos are shown. First year teachers (Ba +=20=
30 units) starting pay $52,279.00. If you are interested or know=20

It's Teletubbyland-on-Earth, all right.
Compare the offered salary with local
housing prices, though, before jumping
into it. Many folks who work at mid-level
jobs there have to live an hour away or
more (where it's not quite so 'Pleasant')
in order to find affordable rent.

Wow... Pleasanton... a beautiful place! I was there for a friend's wedding a
few years ago during springtime... beautiful green rolling hills... very
scenic.. nice homes... pretty upscale community or so it seemed.. looked like a
great place to live. For anyone out there considering this job, I think you'll
like the area for sure. :-) Seems like a wonderful opportunity.

The only problem I can see is High School teachers don't make enough to
buy or rent a house in some place like Pleasanton! Probably have to
commute 1-2 hours.
