Then Why did they make "Oven Mits?" I personally peek when the
pyrometer reads @200 degrees, then close it back up till cold. Love

Yes, it is so hard to be patient especially for a newbie to the firing =
process. My kiln seems to take forever to cool. Please tell me...When =
can I open the peeps? And crack the lid?

I would think because most folks want to eat their food while it's
still hot/warm.
The point I was trying to make is: one wouldn't take something out of
a hot oven without hand protection. With a kiln, one should wait
until the ware & kiln furniture is cool enough that hand protection
is not required. The hotter the pots/furniture are, the more stress
you're putting on them.
