If Mayor Mel and diligent moderator crew once again allow this workshop
opportunity to be posted to CLAYART...........
Hi all in CLAYART land.
Once again I will be offering my annual noborigama woodfiring workshop he=
re
at my studio August 20th through 29th. Started doing this here in 1981. =
The program is limited to only seven participants so that it is a real
"hands on experience".
During the 9 1/2 days, we'll be making some pieces, stacking, loading,
firing, and unloading my four chamber noborigama. We'll fire the last tw=
o
chambers using "youhen" process....... imbedding the wares in charcoal at=
the end of the firing. This year I'll be fresh back from 2 months in
Japan...so lots of new slides and info to share.
Yes.... a lot to do in that timeframe... it is kinda' the "Outward Bound"=
of pottery . You need to bring some bisque ware too. A typical
workshop program load in the kiln averages about 475 pieces..... divide b=
y
7 and you get about 68 pieces pp of varying sizes.
If you are interested in more information on this program, please contact=
me at the phone number on the message trailer below, or visit my website
for more info and images of past workshops. =
Getting the word out on this summer's workshop is way behind normal and I=
apologize to those who have been waiting. I had to wait until confirmati=
on
of dates came in for my residency in Japan before I could set the worksho=
p
dates. So I missed the CM workshop issue deadline and such (ad in next
issue). I only firmly set the dates about 3 weeks ago and started gettin=
g
word out 2 weeks ago... and already four of the seven spaces are taken. =
So... there is some space left....but not much.
I am busy getting a firing together before I leave for Japan.... so email=
is a GREAT way to converse with me right now. I can check it at weird
hours .
Thanks.
best,
.......................john
PS: I have a new 70 image slide show up on my website that visually
documents a woodfiring workshop that I just did here for the senior and
grad student majors from Mass. College of Art. It is off the "Current
Happenings" button on the main menu page.
