Dear Vince,
Because of the turbulence around the body of the spray gun operator,
even if all dust is captured and sucked into the booth, the operator is
exposed to the possibility of breathing dust. And, the spray booth is a
mechanical device that may not always work perfectly. I think you would
agree that using a respirator as a backup to the exhaust function of the
spray booth is a reasonable precaution.

We had a Laguna Spray Booth that was on a covered porch outside and we
always wear a dust mask.

Dave -
Yes, absolutely, I agree 100%. The ideal combination is to test the
spraybooth to make sure that it does not release contaminants into the
studio, but then to wear a dust mask as an added precaution.
