See what you missed! Click on his workshop pics button at
www.wendtpottery.com . We had a great time with Craig.
He got in Thursday night, started bright and early Friday
and worked hard both days. We were all reeling from the wealth
of information he shared and want to thank him as well as the
wonderful people who attended and paid such rapt attention.
Also, the North Idaho Potter's Guild made the workshop fun
by bringing a delicious lunch Friday that also fed most people
again Saturday.
WOW!
Warm Regards to all,

Dear Michael Wendt,
Thank you for exhibiting these pictures.
I take it this was a demonstration.
Photo 3 is interesting. Can you give us some idea of the shape of the
"Chuck" being used. Was this made as needed or did Craig bring a
selection with him ?
Best regards,
Ivor Lewis. Redhill, South Australia

Hello Ivor:

I just returned from Idaho and turned my mail on.

The chuck is relatively cone shaped and has an expanded width top with a
fat, rounded rim that is sized to fit just inside the inner wall of the
piece being turned. I make the chucks "on site" so participants can see
that they are easy to make and just take a short time to do. I throw a
small series of cup forms and they all are turned with the same
chuck. Sort of a hint about production tools being applicable to similar
shapes thrown about the same size. No big deal.

What a great group of people we had at Michael's shop. I hope they had as
good a time as I did. Michael and Barb had everything ready and did all
they could to make things run like a top. I had everything I needed
including a great lunch on Friday provided by the Palouse Studio
Potters. Nice weather too. Many thanks to all who came and thanks to
Michael and Barb.

regards, Craig Martell Hopewell, Oregon

Ivor,
Craig throws the chuck with the same clay
he uses to make the pots and sets it off to
the side to dry a little.
When he is done throwing, he leaves the
pots out until they are dry enough to trim
inverted on the chuck and trims them.
