I was advised by the well-intended-but-not-particularly-well-informed
crew at Columbus Clay to use molding plaster for making case molds for
slip casting. When I tried several times to cast with a mold I made and
it did not work, I asked around and found out that only #1pottery
plaster will work for this purpose, so now I have a good 75 lbs of
molding plaster here and I am trying to figure out if I can do anything
with it besides looking for footprints left by Sasquatch and making
plaster molds of them to study like I saw on TV when I was little. Would
this stuff at least work well enough to pour slabs for drying out
reclaim? Or would this kind of plaster be more inclined to get embedded
in the clay and pop out during firing? Thanks,

I'd guess your molding plaster would work fine for plaster slabs. I use
plain old plaster of Paris from Home depot, usually; but have used
molding plaster with good results.
