Hi Earl,



I believe it was/is used for treating 'green' Wood,
especially for treating roughed blanks from which Bowls
would be turned.

Also, for treating very old marine archeological Wood, as
from ancient Ship wreck, which otherwise, when removed from
the Water, orusuallt the deep silts underwater, would tend
to deteriorate in the open Air.
