After all that research, I'm no closer to making a decision.
What are the 4 major brands, and how do they compare with each other?
Thanks,
Allen

The article in Pottery Making Illustrated has been mentioned. It was in the
July/August 2002 edition and did compare 30 wheels and their attributes. It
did NOT give opinions about which wheel was better, just what is out there.

I checked the PMI website, www.potterymaking.org/, and found that there are
no back issues available. If you want I'd be happy to scan the reference
chart and send it to you, Allan. The article itself is about 8 pages long.
Any library near you that might carry PMI?

Good luck with your decision,

Zephyr Pottery
1/2 way out Long Island, NY, USA where the weather can only be describes and
DANK- cool and damp, foggy and fine mist of rain. But spring is definitely
here. Where I have a Brent C and have been extremely happy with it but may
also get a kick wheel when I get my own studio (I rent now and have limited
space).

When I went to pick mine out, there were three types I could choose
from, all made from zelkova wood. There was a really squat type. I
am not sure where the design comes from. There was the standard Mashiko
size, that the seller though would be best for me, and then there was a
taller, heavier model. I went with the heavier one because that was
the size I was using at my teacher's workshop and also, I wanted the
momentum the heavier wheel would have. Want to get a hand wheel
too, like what Hamada used. Maybe put it on a portable stand so I
don't have to use up bench or rack space to make my throwing platform
larger.

My wheel is my most important tool. More important than my kiln.
