Has anyone used Axner's house brand Ultimax pyrometer? It's pretty =
affordably priced but I'd like some consumer feedback. I bought their El =
Cheapo Acme pyrometer and got about 1 1/2 years use out of it before it =
died but it would flash between 3-4 different readouts and you just =
chose the one that seemed most likely. I'd like to hear any comments.

Fire season is upon us in NM, I could see smoke from two different fires =
on my way home from Albuquerque yesterday. It's going to be a bad one.

I also got the Acme pyrometer and used it about a year or so before
it began to "go whacky" and wouldn't begin to display anything until
the kiln got up to around 500=B0C, even then the first number was often
missing. Before that it seemed to work fine. Actually used it for
monitoring crystalline firings. It was before Axner came out with the
Ultimax that I decided to go by the ole saying: "you get what you pay
for" and purchased a Fluke.
I've noted in Axner's more recent description of the Acme that it's
not accurate over 1900=B0F.
