and, without question.
clay body and the sort of color
you have beneath the shino is very
important.
white stoneware does one thing,
porcelain another.
iron bearing stoneware will always give you
reddish shino.
clay body.
it is what makes glaze work.
clay body.
color of glaze
thickness of glaze. important.
if you ignore any of the above,
something strange will occur and
you will not know why.
and, without question, shino goes on alone.
do not put it over anything but clay.
sometimes, a bit of glaze on top will work...but,
it is chancy....i use a little bit of pete's cranberry, and
a bit of my orange. but, careful.
