A few good Ideas about shino=E2=80=99s

Buy a box of large 014 cones and start body reduction at this point,
shino starts to melt at 08 so get the reduction early.

when mixing the shino try to mix it thin, the thinner it is the redder it=20
will be on the pot.

when you glaze:
if you glaze the pot stick it in your kiln and turn it on, carbon trapping=20
will be minimized.
if you glaze your pot and let it sit a day then fire it you will get some=20
carbon trapping,

if you glaze the pot, use hot wax then dip it again where the wax was will b=
e=20
orange and where it wasn=E2=80=99t will trap carbon. When doing this let th=
e pot sit=20
over night to let the soda ash migrate to the surface of the pot.
the nexr day be carefull you can have fingermarks where you have brushed the=
=20
soda ash off.

you can decorate with iron oxide to get a great color, and cobalt to get blu=
e=20
shino.
1/2 gram bentonite + 1/2 gram borax + 1 gram colorant, iron, cobalt, ect.
paint on bisque or on top of glaze.

the best thing to try with those pots that came out of the glaze firing=20
without any color is to restack them in a bisque and fire them. They trap so=
me=20
stuff from doing this. don=E2=80=99t nest them, they will stick together.

for porcelain this is the best recipie I have come across:
mix it like milk, a fast dip.
pinks and oranges.
