Hello,

Thank you to those who have already received this email and =
forwarded it on to their lists. I updated my email list this weekend =
so sorry if you are getting this a second time. I had one of my =
sculptures stolen from my front yard early on Thursday morning June =
3rd. This guy weighs about two hundred pounds and is made of cast iron. =
When I have installed it for shows it took two people, a dolly, and a =
truck to move it. This had to be done by at least two people with a =
truck and I am guessing it was premeditated. This is a large outdoor =
piece that is around 4' tall so it should be easy to spot. I have spent =
over one hundred hours making it and have a considerable amount of =
money tied up in the materials as well. This has no scrap value so it =
wouldn't be melted down or sold to a scrap metal buyer. It is probably =
sitting in someone's yard or living room. I am offering a reward if we =
can get someone prosecuted for this. I have included two photos of this =
sculpture. I also would appreciate it if you could forward this email =
to everyone on your list who lives in the general Phoenix area. Also =
if I got you onto my list by accident and you don't want me to bug you =
just let me know and I will remove you. =20

thanks in advance for any =
help

Would you like to see what I have been up =
to lately

Do you live in a college town? If so, you might check the fraternities=20
and sororities. My dad had a large metal sculpture stolen from our=20
yard. Apparently a fraternity had taken it and placed it in their=20
sister sorority's living room as a prank. The sorority, afraid of=20
prosecution, dismantled it and took the parts to several junkyards. It=20
was one of the junkyard men who recognized what the pieces came from and =

called Dad (he was a junkyard regular) and filled him in on what had=20
happened, but by then it was too late, the sculpture was in pieces and=20
strewn all over Lawrence. I certainly hope you can find your sculpture!

Julian,
Could you send me the pics of the piece stolen? Attachments don't work on
CLAYART.

Unfortunately, there is alot of this going on these days. There has certainly been a lot of Art Theft going here in Santa Fe. A Santo Domingo pot from a Canyon Road gallery, bronze sculptures chained to the patio at a Santa Fe Trail gallery, even an O'Keeffe from the Museum of New Mexico. Hopefully you will be able to receover your piece. There's too much of a illegal market to unscrupulous collectors for much of the stuff here in Santa FE to be recovered (you might be able to see articles about these thefts at http://www.santafenewmexican.com/
