OK Ivor and all you other data collectors,

Got out my ruler and I'm about 70 mm from the underside of the nose tip =
to the jawbone. Prior to this thread I had begun making mugs and had =
finally worked out a form that I really liked. After reading some of =
the discussions I began to worry about my mug dimensions. Away I went =
to the studio, ruler in hand! My leather hard mugs measure 100 mm. =
They are ^6 porcelain so after drying and firing I hope I'm in the =
non-nose bumping ball park!
Peace,

Dear Allyson May,
Thank you for your information.
If the outer diameter of your wet mugs is 100 mm and the total
shrinkage is, say 15%, when fired and glazed this will reduce to 85
mm. Given a wall thickness of 2.5 mm and the inner diameter comes down
to 80 mm, which is about 3 1/8 inches. You should feel very
comfortable with that sort of result
Best regards,
Ivor Lewis.
