I'm interested in hearing feedback on Nabertherm Kilns. They had a huge
booth area (I think it was 6!) at NCECA. If anyone saw them there or
has actual experience with these German Kilns, I'd love to hear your
thoughts (positive and negative). We are considering carrying their
line. However, those of you who know Mom (or knew Dad) know that their
commitment to carry ONLY quality products is huge.
Many thanks!

Cynthia, I missed their booth at NCECA, so never heard of them until I got
the brochure from Sheffields this week. Boy those suckers are SUPER
expensive IMO, but they do have one feature I like - WHEELS! I've heard a
lot of clayarters talk about having their kiln be in the way of traffic and
wheels would be an excellent fix!

Cindy I looked at one at a local store and here are some of my thoughts.
This one was smaller than my L&L J230 but larger than a test kiln.

-It only had one peep hole in the Kiln, this would make it impossible to
view witness cones at different levels while firing.
- It had only one thermocouple for the kiln
- It was a one piece unit so would be harder to get in and out of tight
spaces and change elements but it does use much heavier coils so should need
changing less often. Does come on casters so could move it one place to
another more easily

-It is supposed to be better insulated using some kind of sand in a sealed
jacket. I am assuming this would prevent any future modifcations that might
require drilling into the jacket ( like to add additional thermocouples) It
is supposed to have bettter insulating properties and a cooler outside temp
at high fire.
Its biggest drawback for me is the inability to see cones at different
levels and the single thermcouple. Maybe their kiln fires evenly. Mine sure
doesn't without some tweeking.
