old crazed tiles

The Question: how do you make new tiles match the 100 year old crazed tiles
in our bathroom.

The History: first the roofer tried to burn the house down, then the repair
guys from the insurance company couldn't manage to seal the house and
torrential downpours caused cascades of water down the center stairwell, and on it
goes. We're nearing the end after over a year and OUR tile guy is trying to match
the 4" formerly white, crazed wall tiles. The floor is easy, small white
unglazed hexagons. Anyway, that's how I got to the question above.

Lynne Berman, in center city Philadelphia, but not for long
Gordon Hutchens is due on Long Beach Island in a week or so, can't wait

Lynne Hi, Sorry about the fire. Hope no one was hurt.
I used to collect old tiles. There are several places in Phila that had
them ( Havn't done it in a while). Also found some on ebay. There was a place
on Bainbridge ave near 5th or 6th I think that I used to get some from.
Another area I think was in Adamstown out the turnpike there is a large
antiquing area. There is a recycling architectural place that sells tiles,
fireplaces, cornices.... from houses being torn down or renivated. There is
another one over off the skukyll/roosevelt bld area called Urban Artifacts.
near Germantown.
Depending on what you find you may mix in some neat accent tiles I have
some very nice ones I found over time. The palin ones were much cheaper than
the relief tiles. These might go the best since they are also old. A few
places had them with cement on but it soaks off fairly easily in water.
Hope you enjoy the workshops this summer I didn't recognize anyone
except John Britt. I am working on getting a kiln from Randy Brodnax and he
keeps saying he would love to come back to the art center again, or
somewhere up this way. He was a hoot.
Are you still with the co-op in Hadden Heights? area
Liz Gowen Phone is 856-863-8931 if you need a better idea how to find
some of these places.
