I am forwarding an email from Tennessee about coke kiln bricks.
I suggest you test them for your temperture if interested. Try one in your
kiln. please direct all questions to the owner Roy Elmer
Here is his message:

I own a piece of property that has an old arched coke kiln on it. The
kiln is 50 feet deep, 8 feet high and ONE MILE long. I estimate that
there are over one million kiln bricks in this structure. The bricks are
not mortered in but are laid one on top of the other. I am wondering if
you have any information about person or organization that would be
interested in purchasing any or all of these bricks. If you would like
more information or would like to talk to me in person please feel to email
me or you may call me anytime at 731-686-7844.

The kiln in question was in fact a coke kiln. Some of the old folks that
worked there are still around and I talked to several of them before I
purchased the property many years years ago.
The property fronts on the mouth of the Tennessee river. The coke was
loaded on barges and and shipped up the Ohio River to the steel mills in
West Virgina and Pennsylvania.

The bricks are of the hard type and each brick weighs about 8 pounds. They
are 9 inches long, 3 inches wide and 4.5 inches in height.

The state wants to buy the property for an industrial park but they only
want it if I have it cleared. I hope that some of these can be put to
good use before I have to tear the structure down and use it for fill. It
would be such a waste.
