Surfing with Helen Bates - South England sites - July 8th., 2004

Just a few briefly-described sites:

Sandy Brown (Appledore, Devon, England, UK)
http://www.sandybrownarts.com/

Brown's personal web page (Click twice to get to menu.)
...
Resurgence issue 220
http://resurgence.gn.apc.org/issues/brown220.htm

Sandy Brown teabowl (article and image)
...
Gallery St. Ives (Tokyo, Japan)
http://www.gallery-st-ives.co.jp/Sandy-Brown.htm

Three pieces by Brown
Babelfish Altavista can translate text if you wish:

The "On Line Gallery" (Southampton, Hampshire, England, UK)
http://www.touchsouthampton.com/webpro/live/onlinegallery/announcements.cfm

Leach pitcher, Cardew bowls, work by their "school" and current potters
in "studio pottery" tradition: Clive Bowen, Mike Dodd, Wally Keeler,
Jim Malone, Christine Jones, Victoria Bryan, Michael Cardew, Jack
Doherty, Rod Hare, Rowena Kinsman, Bernard Leach, William Marshall.
(Current exhibition: Hugh West)

Jennie Hale (Longham, England, UK)
http://www.jenniehale.co.uk/index.htm

Coil built birds and animals, glazed and raku fired

Christine-Ann Richards (Wanstrow, Somerset, England, UK)
http://www.christineannrichards.co.uk/

Thrown porcelain and exterior ceramic works

Helen Martino (Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, England, UK)
http://basic1.easily.co.uk/038068/020019/

Potter and ceramic sculptor

Michael Cardew motto ware pottery jug (1929)
http://www.andrewwhitehead.com/741/art_185.html

This is a very nice piece, and the Andrew Whitehead Gallery has done it
full justice in giving it several large images of all four sides of the
pot. The base is also shown, and is rather rough. I guess it wasn't
meant to be placed on an unprotected polished surface! Meant for rustic
kitchens in rural England?

Dr. Allan Peacey (Stroud, Gloucestershire, England, UK)
http://intarch.ac.uk/journal/issue1/peacey/

The Tobacco Pipe Kiln - The Development of the Tobacco Pipe Kiln in the
British Isles. For images, go to "Table of contents" then "List of
Figures."

Simon Drew (The Gallery) (Dartmouth, Devon, England, UK)
http://www.simondrew.co.uk/gallery/gallery.htm

See "Exhibitions", then scroll down to see the past exhibitions of
ceramists Anna Lambert, Nick Chapman, Colin Kellam, and the Macdonells.
Site not updated since some time in 2001, regrettably.

Bluestone Gallery (Devizes, Wiltshire, England, UK)
http://www.bluestonegallery.com/gallery/ceramics.htm

Ceramists: John Calver, Trevor Chaplin, Linda Chew, Gille le Corre,
Jack Doherty, Bridget Drakeford, Philip Evans, Russell Gibbs, Jennie
Gilbert, Jennifer Hall, Lisa Hammond, Mirka Golden Hann, Andrew Hill,
Aki Moriuchi, Guy Perkins, Paul Priest, Mary Rich, Phil Rogers, Penny
Simpson, Anthony Theakston, Roelof Uys, Tessa Wolfe Murray,

Best to all.

Helen

PS: I'm experimenting with putting the urls in angle brackets or leaving
them unbracketed. -h
