Was intrigued to read your post concerning using Diamond willow as handle material.
I have a beautiful little weeping Salix Purpera (purple willow!) that is extraordinarily fine for handle material. Absolutely pliable at all times of the year.
Kiwi vine is pretty darn amazing too-
I love the look of these alternatives to the traditional bamboo. Any more suggestions out there?

other suggestions:
I also use reeds, fiber rush,
as well as hand pounded black ash...all soaked in cool water for about 20 min
to make them pliable.
I have also used raffia that does not need to be soaked.
All are available at Perkins in Connecticut....
