Well my new old Alpine 16 is here on its new concrete pad. I had a roll back
car carrier haul it here.. It worked so well. No bad things happened moving
this kiln..
When i look Charles Counts class in 1968 Bill Ashley was in the class. He was
a school teacher, painter , potter. His pots were wonderfull. He had
Rheumatic Fever that he got when he was in the Marines,, Long story but later he was
in the hospital at Vanderbuilt waiting for a new heart. He got a infection and
died. While i was talking Sue Ashley at the 4 Bridges show in Chattanooga
its seems she still had his kiln.. The kiln came from Joe Massey who i worked
with when i was a potter Charles Counts pottery..
The porch the kiln was on was rotting away, i did fall through one time..
Well im really pleased to have this kiln here and im hoping to have Shino group
firings in Bills Kiln.. Just had to share this with all of you

The next step is to build a shed around it and im going to use all metal , no
wood..

I need a structure about 9 ft tall and
would appreciate any input as to how other people house these kilns.
Also,
if anybody has a story about the pluses or negatives of this type of
kiln.
It will be propane. Thanks, Gina, Mars Pottery

Gina,
I was in the same predicament many years ago, I got a 20cu.ft Alpine
natural updraft, and had to wait a year before I got the pad poured. It
was outside & I covered it with a tarp to keep out the rain and it
worked fine. Dry it out slowly when you finally get it where you want
it. Mike Gordon

Or, can anyone say definitively, a 1" line will not work with an HF-24,
don't waste your time, start running the 2".

I think it is the volume of gas that is important rather than just the
pressure. As Mel said he fires with 2" of pressure. I fire mine with a
1 1/2" line and 6" of pressure. A 20cu.ft. Alpine with no problems. I
don't think a 1" is big enough to give you the volume you need, but I'm
sure somebody on the list might have a more expert opinion. Mike Gordon

Jonathan -

We fire an old (40+ years) A.D.Alpine updraft at the art center where I
teach and do my work - Moshier Community Art Center in Burien, Washington.
It's an HF-20.

Give me your address and I'll copy and mail the information we have.
