oxyprobe repair

I have the Axner oxyprobe, about 5 years old. The platinum wire that =
runs down the outside of the probe broke in my last firing. I would like =
to try to fix it myself. There is about 2 inches of good wire left =
coming out of the metal housing thing that sits just outside the kiln. =
The rest of the wire that's left is junk-very brittle.

From reading the archives, it sounds like some of you have had new wire =
welded onto the remaining wire? I haven't opened up the metal housing =
that the wire goes into. If I open that , would I be able to replace the =
entire wire and not need to weld it?=20

I'm assuming that there is a separate temperature wire probe inside of =
the ceramic probe? I was still getting temp readings. It appears to me =
that the platinum wire is wrapped around the end of the probe without =
coming into contact with anything else. Is that right?=20

I'd appreciate any help on this.=20

Thanks,
Sylvia

Hi all,
SO one of the little prongs that fits into the hole in the box has a
loose wire. The prong has 3 parts: the prong itself, a little nut
that screws into the back, and a plastic cover.
How is the prong supposed to connect to the wire that goes through
the holes in the prong and nut? Do you double the wire back so it
gets caught in the threads when you screw the nut on? This seems to
be working now: I'm firing and am getting readings that look right.
But I might be doing this all wrong.
Anyone??

Does Nils Lou still do them?

The thermocouple still works, but the oxygen readings are worthless. I thin=

We've been sending ours to Axner. Good turnaround. Be prepared for a price
shock. Most of it i for the platinum wire. I think Nils gave this up.
