alumina health risks???

Hello,

Since I brought up the problem of alumina possibly being harmful if absorbed
through the skin, I have talked with a few people and done lots of research
(books, looking at MSDS, web searches, etc).

I can find NO written references to Alumina being harmful d/t absorbsion
through the skin. I want to apologize for causing a stir. My intention was just
to relate the information that was passed onto me, but it turns out to not be
true.

In a previous email, someone mentions that there are two types of potters, the
ultra-careful and the ultra-sloppy.

*AHEM* Sorry, I hit send prematurely.

Please let me complete my thought :)

tend to be this type of potter -- ultra-sloppy. Generally, I only stay away
from Barium, Manganese and Lead, just becaus eof the serious health hazards
they pose.

I hardly ever mop, sweep or wear a mask. I'm just unconcerned with it (of
course, I'm not a full time potter, so I feel my risk is minimal). If I were
constantly mixing glazes and my basement were a constant cloud of dust, thinkgs
would probably be different.

I just think it's interesting that I'm started this whole controversy about
alumina when I'm not generally worried about health risks :)

Anyways, sorry for all of the confusion.
