ok, here it is, i give this with a faint heart.
years of research of development...but, for the
clay world.....
Mother In Law Blue
take your best glaze recipe/any temp/any
surface.
make the base glaze, add water til like cream.
add:
3 percent cobalt carbonate
2 percent iron oxide/any
mix well, don't use a sieve...it may mess things
up.
slather this on any old pot. if it is a bit loppy, or
bent, so much the better...tell folks that it is `modern art`.
(or, say....i studied with nils lou.)
if you can get a hernia carrying the pot, so much the better.
we like firm pots for this glaze...thick...stout.
if one holds the pot in the bucket for 7 seconds and for
sure over fire...the glaze will run all over the kiln shelves.
break it loose, grind it off. tell folks that it is `modern art`.
this glaze will have that perfect blue color of a 1959 ford
car. that blue that makes your teeth grind. if you don't like
the name `Mother In Law Blue`, you can rename it:
FARMER CAR BLUE/1962/ford
when you have a sale, stick these pots in the back, sorta out
of the way.....when folks squeal and say `hey, wow, look at
this one margaret...HOW MUCH? you say....`well, that one is
sorta special...one of a kind...80 bucks.
gone.
stick out another one as soon as they leave.
keep about 163 of these in boxes, under counters...ready
for those perfect collectors.
so, there it is.
for the world to use, sell, get rich.
could a mercedes be far away?

Dang, Mel! I thought you were going to give out a glaze we could REALLY get
rich on! When I hear MLB, I think Major League Baseball. Now there's real
money- none of this piddling pottery stuff! Oh, well, back to cranking out
more huge murals for astronomical sums. (Yeah, right!)

Geez, Mel!
Now that I've done thousands of mugs,
and figured out that I can pretty much throw one in my
sleep (ok, nodding off at the wheel anyway)
you go and tell me that I have to go and start
making hernia pots! And glaze 'em in MLB!
Voulkos is laughing in his grave!
The neighbors are gonna be all pissed
off at me mixing clay in the cement truck
parked out in front of the house...those
diesels get noisy at 3AM! Not to mention
the tractor trailers bringing in pallets of clay
materials! I'm gonna have to add a room
on, just for the receiving department alone!
How the heck am I gonna learn to center 300
pounds of clay at 3000 rpms without getting killed,
or taking out a neighbor? "..WHOOSH! CRASH!
Oops...sorry Mrs Smith, but at least he's already buried!
No, no thanks necessary!"
Where's the crane to lift 'em into the swimming
pool I converted into a glaze dipping bucket?
Anyone have a used forklift?
