Surfing with Helen Bates - Western USA, Northern California - August
3rd,, 2004

Hello,

I've just got back to my collection of clay urls after a busy time
seeing 8 "alternative" films in a row, plus doing some genealogical
surfing and writing my latest article for PMI.

Enjoy these sites...

Ruby's Clay Studio & Gallery (San Francisco, CA, USA)

A non-profit studio for ceramic artists which offering an environment
where age, race, ethnicity, and orientation are unimportant.
(Clayarter Bonita Cohn is on staff.) History of the studio: Ruby
O'Burke, a Northern California ceramic artist, who had studied with
Antonio Prieto, Sr., established the artist's workshop in 1962 to
provide studio facilities and a supportive environment for potters to
develop their craft. It was her hope that many artists would "outgrow"
the Workshop and set up their own studios."
The studio provides pottery classes, drop-In sessions, gallery shows,
and community outreach activities. Artists: Carol Badran, Russell
Gaillot, Clark Sorensen, Ann Bontatibus, Jane Gellman, Kent Tool, Bonita
Cohn, Marsha Irwin, Sharon Virtue, Cynthia Coppi, Harry Leaf, Dorothy

James Haggerty (Recent Works) (luster);

Oscar Bucher (Current Work);

Tony Natsoulas (Sacramento, CA, USA)

A well-known ceramic sculptor from the "California Funk" tradition
originated by Robert Arneson. There isn't much information with some of
the images, but except for the public works, most of them seem to be
ceramic, sometimes with additions of wire or other materials. I'm also
not sure whether the pieces are glazed or painted.
