textured glaze

I am not sure whether this has been asked before, but the clayart search does not seem to be
working. I am trying to make a sculpture on which I want to apply a textured glaze. In
particular, what I have in mind is something like the red textured (crackled?) glaze on page
26 of the book "500 Teapots," from Lark Ceramics. If you do not have this book, the glaze I
am talking about is a cone 05 textured glaze, and it can be best described as the floor of a
dry lake. It is matt, and it has many large crackles. Does anybody know a formula for such
glazes?

Thank you.

Try using AMACO's Arroya White and adding stain to it to achieve
whatever color you want.

Dear Junko,

In Robin Hopper's Book, The Ceramic Spectrum, there is a section on
reticulated glazes which is quite helpful. I've tried both the black
and white slip base with both of his magnesium carb glazes in various
colors and they are all interesting.

All forms of textured glaze surfaces have been a part of my interest,
my ceramics, and workshops for many years now. Guidelines and
starting points are contained in Series #1 collection Glaze texture
posters listed on the web site.
