Dear Friends,
The Lustre on Zsolnay Ware is Eosine, named after a minor goddess Eos,
not Eosin, the organic dye, Tetrabromofluorescein which is a delicate
pink in solution but has a lime green iridescence in its crystalline
state. We used it in school and college for staining plant tissue
which was to be examined under the microscope.
The alternative name for Eos is Aurora, so you Canadians will be aware
of what this ceramic finish should be capable of producing.
Best regards,
Ivor Lewis.
