self feeding pug mills

Pug mill users try this:
cut your feed size to small chunks that
almost fit between the wall of the mill
and the core shaft. Feed them at a
uniform rate using the rule that you
drop in a new piece as soon as there
is room for it. Keep the core shaft
free of clay buildup for best results.
Our pug mill has no plunger because
we need it to go very fast and these
tips work. If you feed too fast, the
clay forms a bridge over the auger.
If the pieces are too large, they don't
drop into the spaces between the blades.
Some pug mills have too many blades
and that is why they don't work very well.
