kiln shelf problems

Hey Jeanette,
I was having the same problem with my ^6 firings. Problem was occurring =
during NCECA so I asked one of the lecturers doing a ^6 talk and he said =
it was definitely the kiln wash. I had bought the wash from AMACO, =
fired it a few times and then bingo, all these little chips off the foot =
rings. I cleaned the shelves and mixed my own kiln wash and the problem =
is solved. The wash I was using also had that shiny slightly crackled =
looking surface. Just plain cruddy kiln wash! There are probably =
recipes in the archives for wash here is the one I am using in my ^6 and =
Raku kiln: 50g Alumina Hydrate, 25g EPK, 25g Silica. Good luck.
