A few months ago I mentioned that I would test the ash from a
pile of Christmas catalogs I burned in my air tight stove. Since they
are on slick paper and that contains a lot of Kaolin I wondered if
this combo of ash and kaolin would fire to make a glaze and I said I
would try it.
Well it does make a glaze, sort of light tan with spots. Nothing much
to look at and not very glossy at cone 10.
Now the question has been asked about firing books . If on slick
paper it ought to produce something.
Yesterday I got a Sharper image catalog in the mail and it got
me to thinking I would fire it and see what might occur. Might stick
to the shelf though. It is kind of large and flat so it would need a
rather large support slab.
So maybe I will substitute a National Geographic magazine
instead. I can put it on a plate.
