brent wheel speed problem

Hello,

I have a Brent CXC that is about 4 years old. Last week the belt sarted
slipping for the first time and after adjustment it seems to be staying.
This week however, the wheel speed is lagging a few seconds when I decrease
and increase speed. It doesn't completely stop but slows down considerably.
I haven't been able to find contact info for Brent and am not the original
buyer of this wheel. Any ideas where the problem is? in the pedal or
elsewhere? Thanks for all your help.
I'd also appreciate info on how to reach the Brent folks.

There is a plate on the bottom of the foot pedal, 4 screws, inside
there are 2 adjustment screws, one is for top speed and the other will
adjust the position of the pedal when the wheel starts moving or comes
to a stop. Play around with it you& can see which is which.Mike Gordon

I'm not getting a clear picture of what you are describing here, but if you
remove the cover on the underside of the foot pedal you will find two small
adjustment wheels, one is colored red and I think the other blue. These
adjust the high end speed and the low end speed of the wheel. You can play
around with them to see if you might be able to adjust the problem away.
You aren't going to hurt anything adjusting them, just remember that
adjusting one end of the speed will affect the other end. So any
adjustments might require you to fiddle with both adjustment wheels until
you get it where you want it.

Other than that, you could have a problem with either the controller, the
bushings on the motor or the rheostat thingy in the footpedal. Contact
Brent if you can't figure it out, it's not under warranty anymore, but they
don't care if you are the original owner or not.

They are Amaco/Brent in Indianapolis, 1-800-374-1600

jj,
Remove the plate on the bottom of the foot peddle to make trim
adjustments. My Brent is well used and does weard things now. The
lowest trim changes so I just turn the wheel off if I'm doing something
else. It'll remind me if I don't and start turning with the peddle in
the off position. It's not perfect but suits my needs. Sometimes
acceptance is the key.
I think Brent always has an add in Ceramics Monthly. They are still in
business aren't they?

I had a similar problem with my pedal. They are still being made in
Indianapolis. I had no luck with google, but look in Ceramics Monthly
for a phone #. If I remember correctly the problem was some sort of
computer module or something of that sort. The tech guy on the phone
knew immediately what it was by my description and the part was around
$100.

Their retail store is on site as well and is often just as helpful

This company is always helpful. Just call and ask for the potter's wheel
technician or glaze engineer, depending on the problem.
