I hope this works. This is my first message to Clayart and many have told me
how invaulable the information and friendships gotten from this site.

So here goes....

I am looking for recips for cone 6 soda glazes. I have been invited to fire
with some friends and this is new territory being a cone 10 salt/soda girl.
I am also looking for recipes for a good cone 6 soda flashing slip, colored
slips and a good clay body.

Thankyou,
Dina Gewing

OK, at the risk of offending the newbie, what I'm hearing is that you
basically want us to provide you with everything you need to make pots,
except the kiln and wheel. Have you looked in the archives at all? There
are several posts in the archives about ^6 soda glazes, including those from
our departed friend Ababi, and MANY other ^6 glazes and claybodies as well.
Have you tried any experimentation on your own? Maybe taken a
tried-and-true ^6 glaze and seen what it'll do in soda? There are SO many
possibilities..........

Hi Dina,
Ruthanne Tudball's book Soda Glazing has some inclusion of ^6 glazes.
It does mostly deal with ^9-10 firing but ^6 are also there.
You can also use some matt ^6 glazes which the soda will flux out. Be
careful not to use them where they could run. They will also change in
appearance drastically. I think it is Julie Galloway who uses ^6
glazes. She was at Archie Bray a few years ago as a resident artist.
See if you can find some information from her directly.
Best wishes,
marcia Selsor
-back home from Italy and back in my own studio!!!!-and back on Clayart

L.P.,

Don't Panic!

Dina,

Check out Julia Galloway's web site, http://www.juliagalloway.com/home.html
. On her "Alchemy" page, http://www.juliagalloway.com/alchemy.html , she
lists the glazes that she uses in her cone 6 soda firings.

Jack Troy has some cone 6 stuff in his classic, "Salt-Glazed Ceramics",
...as does Ruthanne Tudball in "Soda Glazing".

In addition to the Clayart archives, you can google (or yahoo) something
like "cone 6 soda firing" (without the quotes) and you'll get a bunch of hits.

Let us know how it goes.

Steve

Thankyou for the suggestions... I will let you know how the firing turned
out.

This is great so many people have helped me!
