Thanks to all who offered information on how to manipulate my kilnsitter to allow for a soak. I haven't been doing any pots for a couple of years, and in my last life, I had gotten pretty dependent on a kiln with a controller. I'm looking now at the L&L's...anybody have comments on those? For now, I'm using a small Jenken that I bought used in Asheville a few months ago. I haven't been able to find any info on that brand. I feel like it's pretty old, but it's in perfect condition and fires to a cone 6 just fine.

Again, thanks to all. This is a wonderful forum. Jan

If for some reason, you actually need the kiln sitter
to shut off your kiln, then turning it back on is
(as many people have noted) easy enough. I prefer not
to let it get that far, though. Why let it turn off at
all, if you have to be right there to turn it back on
for a soak anyway? Use a slightly higher sitter cone
just as a failsafe, and watch the witness cones. When
you reach the heat-work you want, then turn the kiln
off manually. Or fire down. Or whatever.
