all in one:

the shino i mention in my article comes from
malcolm davis and i am sure that ferguson is KEN.
that is a kansas city glaze. and it is not that different
from any of most of the other shinos. they are all
very much the same.

connie and i have been talking again about bubbles
and problems. i am of the opinion that if she down fires
for several hours....and does a bit of reduction on the way
down she will get her great shino back. (even out the kiln)she still is
getting
killer shino pots.) i am going to do three firings at the farm
using her shino/and change the firing technique to see what
i get. i have nine white stoneware teapots, and a batch of left
over chinese clay pots that i will fire (high iron). all experimental.
i do not believe there is anything wrong with her glaze. it
is a firing anomaly.

whistles. the most important thing to remember is that
you will get `muddy lips`. when testing the green whistles
your wet lips melt them...and you eat a great deal of clay.
if you add a bit of chocolate to the clay...it helps.

connie.
tell those suckers that want free pots to `stick it`.
that is very arrogant fund raising. i would just tell
them to `stick it`. it is a very different thing when
i am friends with a program, and i send my pots to
support a program....as i have done with the
minnetonka art center. ( i gave 47 big bowls to donors
that gave over 10,000 bucks to our building program. (one each)
but, that was my gift. they did not ask me to give that much.
and, in that case, it was a tax deduction for me. those are
rather big deals...not like a pot for `empty bowls`. or, for
the kid that is dying of a rare disease.
anyway.
i hate that arrogant, `we are so important, and you must
be dying to help us...and you will become famous because
our clients are so wealthy`. remember, it never happens.

folks who buy pots come from all walks of life. in fact
the super wealthy often have decorators that control
everything...and handmade pots do not often fit.

kiln at 2200F and a perfect day for firing.
clear, high sky, 65 degrees, light winds.
it just wants to fire to cone 11.
