Gay: Many people ride the Clayart pony. It is allowed. If JB does a fine job
i will suggest he service my friends on clayart with a couple of bucks in it
for him. He is a student. A good one, but he does need beer money. I don't
want a nickel. I am just thrilled to be the guy that introduces a young man
to the big bad clay world and all its possibilities. clayart is one of them.
Cheers,
Tony

Well, I'm back at Sheridan and my bright light student John Boyd from North
Carolina showed up. Crossed the border in early morning with a Dodge Ram
packed to the eyeballs with assorted white powders and deadly looking tools.
Forty dry mixed shinos and printed out sheets of five high fire glazes each
for 15 students. The tests will be fired using four different firing
techniques crash cool, clam cool, Hank stall and soda. Oxyprobe in each kiln
except for soda.
I asked JB if there was a way we could share this information with Bruce
Cochrane who is stuck at home trying to repair his body. Here's what wizard
John has planned which blows my mind. he is going to photograph the test
tiles with his digital, put the recipe as text into his computer and burn it
on to a Cd so that we can give a power point presentation. That makes this
information available to all and sundry. Hanging test tiles on nails in the
studio is one thing but to be able to pop this into your computer and look
at it big screen is absolutely over the top ingenious.
JB and a couple of my other hot shots will be throwing over 300 large test
tiles this week. This is absolutely exciting!
I'll keep you posted. It sounds exciting, but as always the proof is in the
pudding.
JB and I are off to the woodfire conference in Iowa next week. Going to do
some smoozing. Want that boy in the best MFA woodfire program in America.
Want a good one? Make me an offer!
Cheers,
Tony
