It is easy for kiln manufacturers to add extra insulation. Paragon's
front-loading Dragon kiln has 4"-thick walls, door and top and 4 1/2"
bottom. Other manufacturers also offer kilns with additional insulation. But
the standard kilns insulated with 2 1/2" or 3" firebrick outsell the kilns
with extra insulation. So we all keep making them.
