Hay Crew,
Interesting so far. Thanks for the recipe Bonnie. I finally did some =
looking in "Clay and Glazes" by Rhodes and found two Cornwall Stone =
Glazes:

^ 9-10
Cornwall Stone 40.6%
China clay 15.7%
Flint 26.7%
Dolomite 4.5%
Whiting 10.9%
Zinc oxide 1.5%

"A smooth bright glaze. Excelent for celedon and iron-red colors in =
reduction."

^9-10

Cornwall Stone 85%
Whiting 15%

"When thickly applied, this glaze gives an opaque, smooth surface. It =
crazes over most clays, giving an effect similar to some old Chinese =
giazes."

In Leach I found on p.168 about "Iron Glazes" "In the following recipes =
Cornish stone may be used in place of feldspar."

Staffel's Cornwall Stone Glaze LACS from Carlton Ball
Oxidation Cone 9

Cornwall Stone, Original 1548 47%
Flint 168 5%
Whiting 564 17%
Zinc 258 8%
Kaolin 762 24%=20
3300=20
=20
Bentonite 2%
Tin Oxide 5%

Looks like I just treat Cornwall stone like feldspar and see what =
happens. If my math works it looks like Bonnie could use 3.4 lb. of =
Cornwall for that batch. A coffee can full should be enough for =
reminissing. I'll try to get it to you soon, Bonnie, but try not to get =
too excited. "Ya, Da U.P., no hurry!" I think I've got most of the =
materials on hand but I'll have to get Bentunite.=20
Thanks, stay in there!

Hey, Gary, you are a treasure. I will wait with "bated" breath for some of
that gold. Looks like a long winter to give me time to do some experiments.
In the meantime, I have three more pots to pit fire before the snow flies.
Hope next week is warm enough.

When I substituted other feldspars for the CS, I did it 1-1 using Custer,
Kona F4 and Neph Syn. Kona F4 won out, but the final glaze is certainly
different, not waxy or soft.

Thanks so much Gary. Looking forward to meeting you one of these days.

Regards,

Bonnie Staffel
