Howdy.
Thinking I need to buy myself a kiln, but since I am on disability,
cost of operation is a concern.
I'm hoping to buy a home soon, and then I'll be trying to live off of
$860 per month. In Buffalo... where it gets COLD in the winter.
Obviously I won't have a lot to spend on electrical bills, etc.

Is there any way to calculate the cost of operating a kiln? And what
about alternative energy sources? If available they probably make the
initial cost much higher, huh?

A general rule of thumb at Paragon years ago was that the cost of firing a
load in your own hobby-size kiln was less expensive than having a single
plate fired at a studio. (Those were the days of low-fire ceramic studios.)
You can fire a small test kiln for pennies.
