Ann: I really think asbestos a poor idea. Assuming you can find such =
gloves. Which I think unlikely as who would be making, selling them? =
Anyway. Have you tried talking to a company that sells stuff to =
firemen? Go to nearest firestation, ask what they use. Those people =
have to grab stuff from roaring fires--I expect they wear the best =
gloves going. Lettuce know.

Karen: I have been puttering for some time, much interrupted by this =
and that (mostly that) on same problem. Nothing will replace lead. =
Period. Having said this, my experimentation on which I hope to work =
more this winter, includes tiny replacement of white clay with RedArt in =
the slip. This based on the notion that medieval clay probably was not =
as pure as our white clays today. I also have been diddling with mixes =
of titanium ox and tin, and low boron transparents. I am not clutching =
secrets to my bosom, dear heart, just that is as far as I've gotten. =20

Water: Once more with feeling. IF YOUR GLAZE SUDDENLY GIVES YOU TZORES =
mix a sample with distilled water. Same when you move. Distilled water =
is sold in automotive stores are really good people use it in their car =
batteries. I am told that water from dehumidifiers is equal to =
distilled. No personal knowledge. Distillled water will tell you first =
if there is something wrong with the glaze--i.e. one of the ingredients; =
then if the problem in the glaze is from changes in the water--as when =
you move from Tarragon to Oregon.
