Hi Gang ,
Somehow I managed to give the impression that I was doing a firing without being present & without checking on my kiln even after it had turned off. never , never, never!!
on both counts. In fact the reason the house DIDN'T burn down was because I was checking the kiln even after I had thought it was done firing & compleatly off. when I went to "my studio" I only went into another room since both the kiln & my wheel are in the same house. I also want to thank everyone who wrote back to me. Your kind words & support are making this SO much easier to handle! I guess that's why I turn every potter , clay artist, newbie, veteran , or even someone just thinking about going into clay on to Clayart.( Insert mushy part about wanting to give all of you a big hug!)
Thank You all!

Hi Logan,
Just in case I have to add this - there is a very good reason for having a
kiln hard wired and a shut off breaker away from the kiln - if a sitter
hangs up or any other of the many ways an electric kiln or controller can
go wrong - when you finish a firing - always shut the current off at the
breaker.
If you are ramping down with a controller - check the temperature reading
regularly - see if the temperature is going down properly. That way - if a
breaker in the controller welds shut you will be able to see if something
is wrong.
It does not happen that often but you may be the next person it happens to.
I have a red light built into my main breaker box - a glance tells me if
the breaker is on or off - red lights are hard to ignore,
