I tried to e-mail this to you privately, but it came back as
undeliverable. Apologies to the list, but perhaps some other people
here might have some good advice for our newest beginner!

Did your instructor give you a list of materials that will be provided
and those that you will need to buy? If not, call up there and see if
they have recommendations. What they say will probably be the most
helpful to you since they know the format and extent of the class.
That said, I do have a couple of generic recommendations for a beginning
student in clay:
The pottery tool kit:
http://www.brackers.com/store/results_detail.cfm?cat=353&prodid=KTPTK
This contains all the basic pottery tools needed for throwing.
A serrated rib:
http://www.brackers.com/store/results_detail.cfm?cat=353&prodid=KTS10
Good for texturing or attaching pieces
A fettling knife:
http://www.brackers.com/store/results_detail.cfm?cat=353&prodid=KTF97
Although an old butter knife will also work pretty well.
Books:
http://www.brackers.com/store/results_detail.cfm?cat=614&prodid=BKWHETHRCER_S
Wheel Thrown Ceramics by Don Davis - my favorite beginning to
intermediate book on throwing

http://www.brackers.com/store/results_detail.cfm?cat=614&prodid=BKSURDEC
Surface Decoration for Low-Fire Ceramics by Lynn Peters - a great
complement to Wheel-Thrown
Videos:
http://www.brackers.com/store/results_detail.cfm?cat=88&prodid=VBEGTHR

http://www.brackers.com/store/results_detail.cfm?cat=88&prodid=VMAKPOT1

http://www.brackers.com/store/results_detail.cfm?cat=88&prodid=VPIEBEGWHETHR

http://www.brackers.com/store/results_detail.cfm?cat=88&prodid=VPOTBAS1
Any of these videos would be great for you (You don't need them all,
just pick the one that seems to interest you the most)
Clay: They will probably provide clay for you. Clay is heavy and
expensive to ship. It wouldn't make a lot of sense to buy it from me.
It's also temperature specific, so if you do chose to buy clay
elsewhere, be sure to find out what temperature the place where you are
taking classes fires.
Please feel free to e-mail me back if you have other questions! Enjoy
your class. Clay can be a tad frustrating at the beginning, but also
very fun!

All of my new clay friends can write to me at
yvonneb@hs.fabensisd.net
THANK YOU ALL FOR YOUR SUPPORT.
I red and red your mails and most of the things you said I don't understand
but... soon I will lean the language.
QUESTION:
Can you prepare your own clay or you HAVE TO BUY IT. If this is the case
where do I do it?
Thank you all
Yb

Cindy,
Contact me, I am eager to learn what you have to tell me.

Yes, they are going to sell us a case with tools, The clay the school is
going to sell it to us each class, but If I want to do it by my own, what do
I do. Tell me all clay must be in the fire?
Do you run your own business? That is great, tell me about it.
As you can see my English is not that good... bear with me.
Thank you,
Yvonne
