I've fired my raku kiln in 10 degree weather using a 20lb. propane tank =
and a weed burner. Same old procedure...fire...reduce...quench. The =
neat part: quenching the reduced piece in a snow bank. Great way to =
make holes in the snow and a winter day in N.E. Wis. more tolerable. =
The temp doesn't seem to effect the clay, however, you'll eventually =
lose tank pressure at those degrees. So I would suggest limiting the =
number of pieces you plan to fire, dress warm and have a blast...you'll =
love it

As an aside, I've found a great way to prevent/minimize freezeup in
small propane tanks. I keep my tanks in a large plastic tub. If the
tanks begin to freeze up during a firing, I pour warm water into the
tub. This acts as a heat sink and works brilliantly. I can fire
those tanks to empty at full blast without freeze up.

You don't need much water. A few gallons, just enough to cover the
bottom few inches of the tanks, works fine for me.

Granted, this may not work in 10 degree weather, but works charms otherwise.

BTW, be sure to empty the water after the firings are over so the
tanks don't rust.
