the oxyprobe would never be used in a salt kiln, and
right behind that would be a wood fired kiln. too much
crap flying around.
it would be an expensive experiment. and, i think
the life of the tool would be very short.
i think the best investment for heat measure in
a wood kiln would be a three headed pyrometer. (multiple thermocouples)
i have seen them with up to six.
you can attach that to a computer.
then you get multiple readings from various parts of the
kiln at the same time.
it will aid you in stoking.
but, saying that...i go back to `no smoke, stoke.`
small, split wood, on regular stoke.
on a funny note. a friend was in japan, watching a big
anagama firing. he noted a towel over a computer in
the master's studio...he looked under it.
a laptop, hooked to a six headed pyrometer. long lead wires going to the kiln.
`the old man said to him, `i am old japanese master, but
what the hell, modern tech works`. sorta blows the
`ah cricket` stuff.

We used Cambridge Instument recorders in the Met lab at Hadfields.
Each was capable of recording from six pyrometers giving a hard copy
printout in colour. I suppose these are obsolete but there may be
some around on the secondhand market.
Data Loggers can be had from Ham Radio and Electonic supply houses.
Not expensive.
Best regards,
Ivor Lewis.
