Hi all;

I remember seeing a TV programme about industrialization and Wedgewood. I
saw trays and trays of his test tiles in the show. I wonder where they are
and if I can go see them? I went to the Victoria and Albert Museum and asked
and they sent me to the 6th floor and I didn't see any.

I also would like to see how factories record and do their tests - the
workings of industrial glaze developement. Would that be a possiblity?

The reason I'm thinking about it is because in my informal science group,
the leader make arrangement for us to visit labs or behind the scenes at the
Darwin Centre and it was very interesting to see how things work; rather
than just talking about it or reading books.

TIA

Hello May,

You could contact the Wedgwood Museum; its located just outside Stoke on
Trent. Have a look at their web site at http://www.wedgwoodmuseum.org.uk/

Another contact is the City Museum in Stoke; their web site is
http://www2002.stoke.gov.uk/museums/pmag_collections_ceramics.html

Obviously its of no use now but in 1978 the Science Museum in London held
an exhibition on Josiah Wedgwood and his contribution to the advancement
of ceramics and science in general; however a small book published at the
time would probably be of interest to you, and it occasionally turns up in
second hand bookshops. Failing that if youre UK based I could loan you my
copy by post.

Whilst Im sure it was just a typographical error you will upset the
company with your spelling ....its Wedgwood and not Wedgewood ! :-)

Regards,

Andrew
